Clare Quigley

About the Artist

Claire says 'I’m based in Nottingham and was thrilled to learn to weave in 1988, having already studied for a B.A. Hons in Creative Arts here with a focus on photography. Although I experimented with weaving cloth, I soon realised that tapestry weaving was my favourite medium enabling me to ‘paint’ with wool. I love the colours and textures of different yarns and the freedom that tapestry provides to build up areas of design and colour without having to work strictly in rows. With a strong environmental ethos, I use materials from sustainable sources where possible. I am inspired by landscapes, and textiles from around the world. I love going to exhibitions and seeing what other artists and craftspeople have created.

I’m a member of a tapestry weaving group in West Sussex and the British Tapestry Group. I have exhibited and sold at open exhibitions and shops in the East Midlands, as well as Sherwood Art Week. I’m passionate about promoting arts and crafts and have demonstrated weaving at Sandiacre Lock Cottages and Beeston Canalside Heritage Centre.
