Fiona Allen
About the Artist
I seek to be in control, whilst at the same time being completely out of control. I bring these two opposing thoughts together, exploring suppressed emotions, outrages and memories to speak about themes of power, control, love and identity. I work in drawing and painting with a mix of expressive marks and figures alongside structured lines and words. Sometimes there’s an idea, sometimes there’s a phrase, sometimes there’s a sketch. A lot of the time it’s a feeling I let out and keep letting out until it’s something I understand and recognise. Things get hidden, worked over other things come to the forefront. Most of the time, I don’t know what it is until it’s out.
