Rebecca Goldthorpe
About the Artist
Rebecca is a nature-lover, wanderer and gatherer of pretty things. A field-larker who is deeply inspired by the natural world and the gentle rolling beauty of the English landscape. She is especially moved by the overlooked and ignored beauty of our common native plants. Particularly those found in liminal spaces such as on field boundaries and in hedgerows.
She frequently uses her natural finds - such as grasses and seed heads, within her artwork. Rebecca has an interest in using many art techniques but she primarily works with pen and ink or a needle and thread.
She works in a sustainable manner making use of recycled materials where possible acknowledging that we all have a responsibility to protect our natural world and create as small a footprint as we can.
These are dip-pen and black ink illustrations of a native British grass specimens. It was gathered on a meadow walk one warm autumn day last year. It is drawn on a quality sheet of off-white handmade, deckle-edged cotton rag paper. To reflect the fragile appearance of the plant, it is framed in a minimalist style using a magnetic wooden frame.
