Sue Bulmer is an artist, educator, Art Psychotherapist and Inspiration Facilitator based in Nottingham and working from her studio within her cottage garden.

Sue believes we are all creative souls and is a passionate advocate for the benefits to our wellbeing of living a more creative life, and has a deep understanding, stemming from personal experience, of the barriers and beliefs that stop us. Sue creates and delivers courses to share her passion for creativity and well-being, to inspire, guide, educate and support others to tap into their own creative energy.

Sue previously created limited edition prints, original artworks and textiles for the home.  Her beautiful monochrome ink illustrations, influenced by strong line, form, pattern and simplified shapes. Sue’s work has been exhibited locally and nationally, featured in Hebden Bridge Heart Gallery (Yorkshire) among others.

Since completing her Masters in Art therapy, which ushered in significant personal and professional transformation, Sue’s artwork is now expressive, energetic and colourful. Her work is inspired by landscape and seasonal alignment:

“I have always loved spending time outdoors in the landscape. As a child, I remember daily life being governed by the seasons,  the physical sensations of the cold snowy winters with biting north easterly winds blowing in from the sea to spring time when snowdrops appeared in the garden, the land thawed and everything started to grow. Then the more balmy summer days accompanied by the unforgettable smell of freshly cut wheat and barley during the harvest months followed quickly by autumn, blackberries being picked, leaves changing colour and fields ploughed, changing the landscape once again, marking the passing of time.

As an adult, I have an growing fascination in the ways the seasons affect us internally as well as externally, how they impact our energies, our moods, our natural cycles. I believe all of the answers we seek can be found in the natural world and the metaphor of the seasons and in the importance our connection to this world in which we live.”

Sue was recently featured on the Artistic Obsessions podcast, where she spoke about paying attention to when it’s time to rest, confronting the fear that tries to keep you small and safe, being stuck and what happens when you stop fighting it, and the payoff of putting yourself out there even though it can be scary.

Imara is delighted to be auctioning a selection of Sue’s striking black and white ink illustrations on paper. An opportunity to celebrate and remember Sue’s monochrome era, these limited edition prints are now rendered even more scarce as her art style has since developed and transformed.
